Side entry with a solid access cover
SG1125/SE Overview
The SiltGUARD SG1125/SE Vehicle Wash Silt Interceptor features a durable, chemical-resistant high-density polyethylene (HDPE) tank with a capacity of 1,125 litres, designed to withstand demanding wash chemicals and environmental conditions. It can accommodate up to 5,000 wash cycles before requiring emptying, making it well suited to high-volume applications such as commercial car washes, fleet depots, and industrial facilities.
Unlike Top Entry (TE) models, Side Entry (SE) units are installed with a solid access cover rather than a grated surface.
SG1125/SE Operation
Drainage from washdown areas—including yard or road gullies and channel drainage—is directed into the SE unit via the inlet pipe. Silt and debris carried in the flow are captured and retained within the interceptor tank.
The SG1125/SE provides a silt retention capacity of 1,500Kg, enabling extended intervals between maintenance based on typical usage. This helps minimise operational downtime and supports efficient facility performance.

The amount of silt and debris removed during vehicle washing varies considerably depending on the vehicle’s size, type, operating environment, and usage. As a guide, a typical passenger car generates approximately 0.3kg of silt and residue per wash. Larger vans and light commercial vehicles may produce up to 1.5kg per wash, while heavy construction and plant vehicles operating in muddy, dusty, or demanding environments can generate as much as 20kg of silt and solids per wash cycle.
This SG1125/SE model provides a silt retention capacity of approximately 1,500kg. When used in conjunction with a standard light-duty pressure washer or brush wash system for cars and vans, and under normal operating conditions, this equates to an estimated 1,000 to 5,000 wash cycles before emptying is required, depending on the mix and size of vehicles being cleaned.
For more demanding commercial applications, particularly where large construction, agricultural, or industrial vehicles are regularly washed, maintenance intervals may be significantly reduced due to the increased volume of silt generated during each wash cycle.
It should also be noted that the effective silt retention capacity of the system can be enhanced where upstream drainage features such as gullies, catch pits, or settlement chambers are incorporated into the drainage design. The contribution of these components should be considered when assessing maintenance schedules and designing the overall drainage system.
